It allows for network sniffing, which gives you the ability to monitor all traffic from hosts in your subnet. the winpcap drive i think u can download during the installation of cain, try reinstalling, but uninstall all the winpcap drivers you already downloaded/installed

You can always run the program in XP mode if you believe it is working incorrectly. Right click the .exe choose properties then Compatibility tab. Check box your compatibility mode choose Windows XP (Service Pack 3) and for good measure check box your Privilege Level Run this program as an administrator.
As far as not understanding how this program works you will have to do trial and error testing. Use the site’s online User Manual at oxid’s main page for help.
